Sleep disorders are a common problem for people of all ages. Older individuals or those living with chronic conditions can be especially at risk. Often the first things that come to mind when thinking about problems with sleep are trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. However, sleep disorders also include issues such as sleeping too much, falling asleep at the wrong times, or behaving abnormally while asleep. Any of these can have an impact on an individual’s health, sense of well-being and quality of life. This session will review the normal changes that occur in sleep as people age and characteristics of changes in sleep patterns that suggest and underlying sleep disorder.
