Keynote - Long Term Care Lessons Learned: Loss and Fear in the time of COVID

Dr. Miles has spent the past 8 years listening to NH residents with complex chronic conditions who live in nursing centers. These listening sessions include the voices of nursing staff, dietary, environmental from all shifts. This presentation shares their insights and the unanticipated ways bereavement impacts population health. Dr. Miles’ interest in chronic disease and its impact on mortality, health care and the development of functional limitations has long been a focus of her research career. She explores chronic disease development and public health focus from multiple perspectives: population health; population genetics; grief as a risk factor for illness; person centered medical care and public policy.
